PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Chemtex Derust is a ready-to-use rust remover spray for iron and steel: machine parts, bearings, drawer channels, door hinges, steel handles, sinks, vehicle surfaces, cycle chains, sewing machines and hand tools. It penetrates into the rusted layer and breaks the deposit down, so light rust wipes away rather than needing to be ground off.
For light to medium rust, spray once or twice, leave 5 to 10 minutes, and wipe off with a wire brush. For stubborn deposits, spray two or three times, leave 10 to 15 minutes, and expect to do some mild scrubbing. No dilution, no mixing, and no special equipment - it is supplied at working strength in a 700 ml spray.
The point of a formulated rust remover rather than an acid is what it does to the metal underneath. Rust removal is worth doing because rust eats into the section and takes the load-bearing capacity with it, spreads to adjacent surfaces, and seizes hinges and moving parts until something fails. Derust is non-corrosive to the base metal, so removing the rust does not cost you the component. Safe to use in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
- Non-corrosive to base metal — Attacks the rust, not the steel underneath. An acid strong enough to strip rust fast usually takes sound metal with it.
- No scrubbing for light rust — Spray, wait, wipe. Mild scrubbing is only needed on heavy, long-established deposits.
- Ready to use — No dilution or mixing. Straight from the bottle at working strength.
- Works on anything ferrous — Machine parts, bearings, hinges, handles, sinks, chains, tools, vehicle surfaces and drawer channels.
- Home, workshop or plant — Safe to use indoors and out, in a house, a workshop or a plant, without a spray booth or specialist handling.
HOW TO USE
- Protect yourself and the surroundings — Gloves and eye protection. Mask off paint and plastic you do not want treated, and work in a ventilated space.
- Spray once or twice for light rust — Cover the rusted area so it is visibly wet. Two passes for medium deposits.
- Leave 5-10 minutes — Let it penetrate. This is where the work happens; wiping early just spreads it around.
- Wipe off with a wire brush — The loosened rust should come away with light brushing. Repeat on anything that does not.
- For stubborn rust, go longer — Spray two or three times and allow 10-15 minutes, then brush. Very stubborn deposits need some mild scrubbing.
